Patch on a smiling child, designs fanned out

Frequently Asked Questions

Eye patches
Are Speckles eye patches single use?

Yes. Each patch is single use, for good skin hygiene.

How does the patch stay on?

A gentle, latex-free, medical-grade adhesive sticks to the skin over the eye.

Can my child wear glasses with the patch?

Yes. The patch sits on the skin over the eye, and glasses go over the top.

What are they made of?

Soft non-woven cotton with a latex-free, medical-grade adhesive. Hypoallergenic and breathable.

What size are they?

One size fits most, 75 x 54 mm.

How do I apply and remove a patch?

Apply to clean, dry skin over the eye, and remove gently. Follow the directions in every pack and the routine your eye care professional has set.

Can my child wear a patch while swimming?

No. Our patches are designed to be applied to clean, dry skin for the best seal, so they are not designed for swimming or water play. If a patch is being used to protect the eye after surgery, trauma or infection, water adds further risk on top of that. And if a patch is covering the eye with clearer vision, your child is relying on their less clear eye to see in the water, which is not a safe way to swim. Talk to your eye care professional about the right routine around water activities.

What are they for?

Hide & See Eye Patches are developed to cover and protect the eye during occlusion therapy or after surgery, trauma, or a procedure. Always read the label and follow directions for use. Single use only.

Sunglasses
Do young children really need sunglasses?

Yes. Children's eyes let in more UV than adults' do, and around 40 to 50 percent of a person's lifetime UV exposure happens before age 20. Every pair we make blocks 100% of UV.

What does UV400 mean?

The lens blocks light up to 400 nanometres, which covers essentially all UVA and UVB. It is a specification, not a marketing word. A dark tint on its own tells you nothing.

How do I choose the right size?

Use the age and fit guide on each product page. A good fit sits securely without pressing at the temples or slipping down the nose.

Do Speckles sunglasses fit over prescription glasses?

It depends on the frame and your child's face shape, every child fits a little differently. If you'd like a hand choosing, email hello@specklesforkids.com and we'll help you find the best fit.
