This year’s donations will help support Sightsavers’ School Health Integrated Programme (SHIP) in Liberia

The primary aim of SHIP is to pave the way for a brighter future for the children of Liberia. We understand that good vision is more than just seeing clearly; it's the key to a world of opportunities and possibilities. Supporting the SHIP Program contributes to tackling the root causes of absenteeism, drop-out rates and enhancing the educational prospects of the next generation.

The SHIP program has already screened 117,997 children across 1,000 schools
and trained 4 optometric technicians to diagnose children.

Over the next three years, the SHIP programme will work in schools across five of Liberia’s 15 counties. Under SHIP, teachers are trained to provide vision screening and refer those with vision problems for free glasses or further treatment. In addition, children suffering from or at risk of worm infections will be treated with deworming medication and educated on eye health and personal hygiene.

Children in poorer countries miss a combined 500 million days of school every year because of common issues such as worm infections, short-sightedness, or poor nutrition.
