Meet Josh π
Josh is 4 years old, and his vision journey started two years ago when his parents noticed his left eye sometimes turned inward.
After a visit to the eye doctor, Josh was diagnosed with accommodative esotropia Β - a type of strabismus, which means the eyes donβt always look in the same direction. In Joshβs case, when he tries to focus on things, especially up close, his eyes work extra hard, and that hard work makes one eye turn inwards. This made it harder for his left eye to keep up, and it started to fall behind, leading to amblyopia, or "curious eye" as we like to call it.
To help Josh see clearly and give both eyes a chance to work as a team, he was given glasses to correct his longsightedness. These glasses help by doing some of the focusing work for him so he can see clearly, which relaxes his eye muscles and keeps his eyes straighter. Josh also patches his stronger eye for 2 hours each day, giving his left eye a chance to get stronger and connect better with his brain.
His amazing mum Myra says it hasnβt always been easy, but finding our fun eye patches at Chemist Warehouse has made it a lot more exciting for Josh to stick to his routine!
We absolutely loved having Josh at our Elio photoshoot and seeing him on the Weekend Today Show, helping us raise awareness about how important early eye checks are for kids.
Josh, you are eye-mazing, and weβre so proud to watch you grow and shine π«π
