Meet Xavier π
Meet Speckles' superstar, Xavier! ππ
This brave 2-year-old is making incredible progress on his patching journey, and we're so touched by his inspiring story β€οΈ
Xavier's vision journey began at just 9 months old when he had a congenital cataract removed. He also has glaucoma, which is stabilised with drops, wears a contact lens and has some vision loss in his left eye.
Xavier started patching around 1.5 years old, and like many little ones, it's been a work in progress. His mum shared that there's been a lot of clapping, cheering him on as he adjusts and they discover the perfect distractions. Xavier loves being outdoors, and that often keeps him busy enough to forget about pulling his patch off! Now that he's 2, marshmallows are proving to be a sweet motivator for longer wear.
But here's a tip that truly warmed our hearts: Xavier's mum found a little Mickey Mouse doll and sewed an eye patch onto it for him! Now, Mickey can patch when Xavier does, and with his own removable dummy, Xavier is learning to comfort his patching buddy. How adorable is that?!
We're so inspired by Xavier's journey and his family's creative ways to make patching a positive experience. Keep shining bright, Xavier! π
